DentaCarts is an online B2B marketplace of dental products in Egypt. Saad Saleh, the co-founder, runs DentaCarts with his partner Ahmed Yahia and a full-time team of customer care and sales specialists. Their big goal is to give dentists access to only genuine, innovative dental products.

We launched DentaCarts in 2016. Me and my partner—we’re not from the dental industry initially. We analysed the market and found the idea to open a marketplace very promising. But there was a problem—competition in B2C retail market was very strong. So, our decision was to open a more niche B2B marketplace. And there, the DentaCart’s story began.

The idea to open a B2B marketplace came to Saad and Ahmed in August 2016. It took them about half a year to analyse the dental market in Egypt, set everything up, and start selling. Now they ship worldwide—to Australia, Russia, UAE, India, and, of course, the Middle East.

Saad mentions that dental industry is advancing very fast—new technologies and products are constantly being released. With DentaCarts, they can provide dentists with the latest innovative dental supplies and technologies.

“Dentists in Egypt are very traditional people. They are not very familiar with eCommerce. Many of them even do all the paperwork on papers instead of computers. Just because they are used to work like this. And they buy dental supplies from sales agents. They buy what agents can offer and they usually buy the same stuff over and over again. No alternatives. Dentists can’t buy something new and innovative from those agents. DentaCarts solves this problem—in our catalog, dentists can always find the latest inventions of the dental industry.”

When Saad was looking for a software platform for DentaCarts, he tested a lot of marketplace softwares including OpenCart, Magento, Yo!Cart, Shopify, and WooCommerce. He had a long list of the required features and compared the solutions according to that list. The final choice was CS-Cart Multi-Vendor.

A big community, open source code, integration with third-party services, support and ease of use were key features on the list and Multi-Vendor had them all. Saad even developed a couple of add-ons himself and told us that it was pretty easy.
