Lesson 20. Products — Categories. Part 2

When you create or edit a category in your CS-Cart website shopping cart system, you should specify a number of category properties. For convenience, properties are grouped under several tabs.

Below we provide the description for the properties that are used in categories of the business shopping cart. The properties are divided into several tabs. So we will be moving from tab to tab. The first is the general tab that contains the general information about a category.

Make up a name for the category. Then assign it to a category or make it a root one. Enter the description. It gives the general idea about the products presented in the category and also serves as another SEO-wise opportunity. Set the desired status. Upload an image for the category if needed. The uploaded image produces a category thumbnail and a large category image. Fill the Meta data section for SEO purposes. Availability. Define what user groups can access this category. Second tab is the Add-ons tab. Each section here is provided by add-ons, so make sure to enable them before creating new categories in your e-commerce program.

Make up SEO name for the new category. It will replace the standard URL. Good for SEO. Set up Age verification and Age limit to restrict access to the category for children. Warning message is shown when the customer doesn’t meet the age requirement. Enable comments and reviews if needed.

The third Views tab determines the presentation of the products on a storefront. With Product details view an administrator can define what template to use for the products in this category. The Reward points tab. It is used to add custom values for reward points awarded to products in this category only.

After creating a category one more tab will appear at the category settings. This is the Layouts tab. On this tab you can change the block settings and turn them off and on. Good for customization.

That’s it about categories in CS-Cart internet shop system.
